Hello,

we are coming to Empuriabrava this summer at the end of July.
in the newspapers we read that there most likely will be a power and
water shortage at the Costa Brava, also in the Rosas-area.
we will be staying at camping Internacional Amberes.
we are very worried especially about the water shortage. can anyone
please tell me if the situation is as bad as the newspapers say?
If it is, we can still change our holiday destination, which we really don't want to do, because we like Empuriabrava very much (we were
there last year and loved it).

Hello monique, welcome to the forum.

This is a great question and one that I should post a blog about but here is the situation as I understand it at the moment.

I haven't heard anything about a power problem - maybe someone else can help on that part of your question.

Yes there is a water problem. It hasn't rained enough over the winter and the reservoirs are low.

At the moment, some restrictions are in place or soon to be in place. You shouldn't water your garden with fresh (drinking) water and you shouldn't fill an empty swimming pool. (You are allowed to top up a swimming pool for maintenance reasons but not to fill an empty pool).

There are no other water restrictions yet that I know of and the water supplies are running normally. If the situation worsens over the summer then I understand that some restrictions on the water supply (e.g. no water between certain hours in the night) MAY be put in place later in the summer but that has not been decided yet and may not even happen.

My advice would be that you don't worry about it. It is a problem and could become a worse one over time but my guess (and it is only a guess) is that the tourist industry will not be affected all that much.

Enjoy your holiday!
Another useful question and answer, which I also wanted to ask. It is evident that this year there could be restrictions as "the rain in Spain" has not been very generous, indeed. If water shortages happen mainly at night it is not such a big problem. Watering gardens seem to be a major problem. Well, I guess that I would have to look at a couple of pots with cactii......
