Water Restrictions Lifted

The post title says it all.

As from yesterday the water restrictions that have been in force for the Empuriabrava and surrounding region have now been lifted.

CORRECTION:

The restrictions are still in place for the Empuriabrava area but have been lifted in most other places.

Help with a Taxing Problem

Castelló Town Council is offering an Income Tax processing help service to Castelló residents. The service is free and available between 8am and 5pm in the council administration office until 15th June.

A Third Primary School in Castelló

Due to open in the academic year 2008/2009 a third CEIP (Primary School) is planned for the town of Castelló.

The school is necessary because pupil numbers entering the education system at kindergarten level is set to rise in the next academic year.

Tramontana on the Way

Watch out for very windy weather as another Tramontana heads for the Bay of Roses. It is due to start Wednesday afternoon and is predicted to last until at least Sunday. Here’s the forecast wind speeds:

Cold Weather on the Way

Get ready for a spell of cold weather that is due to arrive over the next few days with temperatures expected to hit freezing by the end of the week.

Health agencies in the region have been put on alert to deal with flu and other cold weather emergencies. Northern Spain is expected to suffer from poor weather conditions and snow.

Four New Pétanque Pitches

The town council have announced that four pétanque pitches are being built on the beach at Empuriabrava near the mouth of the Muga.

Pétanque is a form of boules and is very popular here in Empuriabrava. You will often see players playing in Parc Trabuc where there are pitches but you will also see people playing on any piece of rough ground.

Have a look at this Wikipedia article for more information about pétanque. Does anyone else think that the picture shown could be in Empuriabrava? Except of course our beaches are more golden!

BSC Internet Training

Winter Sales Begins

The Winter Sales have started in shops around Catalonia. Catalans are expected to spend, on average, 250€ in the sales which last between 7th January to 7th March and traders are expecting to see a 4%-8% increase in sales.

Around 30 000 businesses are offering discounts of up to 50% and warm winter clothing is expected to feature heavily in the sales because of the unusually warm winter.

Castelló to Take Part in TV Marathon

On the 17th December the programme La Marató will be shown on TV3 to raise funds for research into Chronic Pain. Castelló is supporting this TV marathon by hosting events in the town to raise awareness and funds:

14th December – A talk by Dr. Joan Carles Sevilla from 18:00 in the retirement home.

16th – 17th December – A selection of small manual art work will be on display in the “La Caixa” exhibition room from11:00 to 18:00. A charity collection box will be available for visitors to make voluntary donations.

Finally, the players from the Mifas-Esplais team will play a game of wheelchair basketball at 12:00 in the town sports pavilion; a collection box will also be available.

Christmas Decorations

This year’s Christmas decorations on the streets of Empuriabrava and Castelló will be switched on from the 9th of December. The town council has bought another 130 lights for the area and in Empuriabrava they will be mostly installed on Carles Fages de Climent Avenue in the town centre, and Marinada Street in Puigmal.
